Not blaming OP in the slightest, but it’s so unhinged that we have to go to such lengths to get small breaks.
Facts. I swear to god I got 50 emails asking me for things, 2 requests for meetings, and still got questions when I got back into the office at 12:30 like "where were you dude???"

If you have kids, use them or their activities as an excuse. If you don’t, maybe use helping your mom/dad with an appointment?
Also, why do you need half a day to do an interview? At most it should be 2-3 hours. Can’t you just say you’re taking an extended lunch and will make up the time when you return?
They want to do interviews in the office in the afternoon and then a partner wants to do dinner afterwards
“I had to address something personal”. Anyone who presses you on that deserves the follow up “… involving my genitalia”

Start your day early on the interview day to get ahead of your tasks. Then either say doctor’s appointment or just say you have a personal errand.
I said I had a bunch of cavities that needed to be filled but my dentist said they couldn’t be at the same time so I got a few appts out of that that I could use for interviewing and no one said anything
I’m amazed at the number of people just suggesting lying. I wouldn’t do that. Just say you have a personal matter that you unfortunately can’t reschedule.
I mean its technically a check up. Checking up on my future employment
