Got a callback with a v50 after a screener last week. Extremely busy and everyone is always on my ass about what I'm doing when I'm not logged in. What are the best ways to take a half-day off after taking a half-day already last week?

Doct appt; follow up doc appointment the following week. Doubt anyone will ask details.

And don't feel like you need to give more details, like a diagnosis or reason.

MRI for personal reasons. Serious side is best

Not blaming OP in the slightest, but it’s so unhinged that we have to go to such lengths to get small breaks.

like

Facts. I swear to god I got 50 emails asking me for things, 2 requests for meetings, and still got questions when I got back into the office at 12:30 like "where were you dude???"

like

If you have kids, use them or their activities as an excuse. If you don’t, maybe use helping your mom/dad with an appointment?

Also, why do you need half a day to do an interview? At most it should be 2-3 hours. Can’t you just say you’re taking an extended lunch and will make up the time when you return?

like

They want to do interviews in the office in the afternoon and then a partner wants to do dinner afterwards

like

“I had to address something personal”. Anyone who presses you on that deserves the follow up “… involving my genitalia”

funny

Start your day early on the interview day to get ahead of your tasks. Then either say doctor’s appointment or just say you have a personal errand.

I said I had a bunch of cavities that needed to be filled but my dentist said they couldn’t be at the same time so I got a few appts out of that that I could use for interviewing and no one said anything

I’m amazed at the number of people just suggesting lying. I wouldn’t do that. Just say you have a personal matter that you unfortunately can’t reschedule.

I mean its technically a check up. Checking up on my future employment

So far the only reason I’ve been told no is that “if you do then everyone will want to and then no one will be in the office” … how can I convince them that I work better out of the office and get this freedom & mental break for myself?

Dear crypto and other investments,

I have come to the realization that I absolutely do not want to work for the rest of my life. I would much rather spend my time living it up with my gf and the boys, traveling the world and living my life. Therefore, I am counting on you to not be an endless disappointment and come through clutch.

Love, someone who will go full office space if you fail me.

Explain to me like I’m 5. Why does the monthly billable hours goal on things like Intellistat change month to month. I’m not hitting hours this year. Last month goal was 158. This months goal is 180.

I’m so f*cking scared of fucking something up, getting fired and then being unemployable…

How did you give notice you were lateraling to people you like? Particularly if you haven't been there that long?

I'm lateraling to another firm because frankly I think the management of this one is terrible, but the people (and individual partners) I actually work with are awesome. I've only been here for about 18 months, so I imagine that short time frame will make it extra awkward 😬

Im a third year and my current firm isn't bad and I'm pretty comfortable here. Im satisfied most of the time. There is one firm I've been keeping my eyes on because of its similarities to where I currently am (nice people, similar hours, culture).

Im a bit burned out now and I would love to take a long break. I'm hoping I can take a break (2 months) between the transition but is this a good reason to move though? Would you move in my situation? Im sure there will be a signing bonus.

Should I take more initiative? It’s my stub year and I’m getting worried. My hours have been super low the past two months, I’m talking like maybe billing 3-4 hours a day and billing no hours on multiple days. I ask for work but the tasks I get don’t require a lot of time. Should I be reaching out more?

My firm’s IT (especially system saving and file locating function) is so bad 😐😞 and they keep doing updates no one asked them for just to mess with the stuff we already got a hang of without doing anything about the issues we actually need fixed. Anyone else in a similar boat? Do you bill the client for the time it takes to fix the IT issue (or IT inefficiency generally, like time taken to find a file in a convoluted system)? Or is that supposed to be our non-billable time?
