I booked a staycation at a swanky hotel in my own city for next weekend, complete with half a day at the spa. I have been contemplating buying one of those $500 cat litter boxes that allegedly cleans itself but am saving it for the next time I need to stress spend. 🤣

I love having both the litter robot and feeder robot.

My sibling (from India) applied for Canadian Visa for study permit (2 years) and it was rejected stating the reason "the IRCC agent was not satisfied that the applicant would leave Canada at the end of their stay.
The intake was in Jan 2023.

Should we apply again? Has anyone ever experienced this and would appreciate if they can guide me? I'm really worried and emotionally tormented. Need urgent help.

Lawyer Couples:
I’m currently an associate (no kids) in a very busy corp group (think 50-60 billable weekly). My wife works significantly less (currently part time, 10-15, but hopefully will be full time soon). I find myself getting upset when asked to help with basic household things (trash, cooking etc.) when she’s been lounging around watching Netflix all day. Am I being reasonable or am I a misogynist? How do you deal with one person having significantly more free time than the other?

it feels like every survey about working from home is (poorly) designed to answer the useless question "would you rather work from home or from the office." I submit that the set of people who prefers to have only one of those two options, always and forever, is the null set. which means it DOES NOT MATTER because the correct answer is always going to be "make both possible." you're welcome, HR departments everywhere.

I’m a 9th year in a mostly litigation-based practice group at a one-tier partnership firm. My group’s billable hours have been low the last few years, so making partner will be nearly impossible, and a counsel position is not viable long-term in my group. What’s the best option here if partnership is the ultimate goal? Try to get a NEP/counsel position at another firm, which is likely difficult in my market, or offer to take a class cut by a few years?

After you are stealth laid off, other than job search, what do you do? I assume they won’t give you work and even if they do, you can politely decline? Has anyone moved away from NY and successfully resigned from the NY bar? What are the consequences if you just don’t pay? The requirements are insane to officially “resign” - draft a motion, pay a fee, send proof of service - I honestly do not know what this nonsense means, I’m not a litigator for a reason. Is there someone I can pay to do it? Should I just pay the $375 to stay active to avoid this nightmare?

How do people focus in the office? I'm a first year and I've been mostly wfh since I started and I'm super productive at home - my setup is comfortable, I rarely get interrupted, and I feel like I can stay really focused in my home office.

Our SAs started today, so the firm is making us come in more often. My office set up is so awkward, screens are too small, and I'm constantly getting interrupted. Not to mention the extra time it took to get ready and commute. How do people do this?
