What’s your experience with peer feedback in performance reviews? It adds valuable perspective, but we have to coach people on giving constructive input.

We don't do that at my company but I do see how it could be beneficial. That being said, coaching does need to be done beforehand. Not all feedback is constructive.

like

Agree!

Feedback in any company is the key part of the success of the employees as well of the company. But yes it should be constructive and loyal. For this companies should give a proper training time to the employees by telling them the importance of the honest feedbacks.

like

Yes I agree, there’s got to be some sort of structure around how the feedback is given.

In my experience, the "crowdsourcing" of feedback was very helpful. It mitigated a manager's "halo" or "horns" effect and gave a fully picture of someone's performance and behaviors.

The feedback wasn't shared directly, as in "Mary said these words about you," but used in the manager's review of the employee to flesh out constructive feedback.

Oh this is a great way to do it!

Feedback is always helpful if it's honest and constructive however, yes-it could be used in a deceptive way. IMO, reviews should be confidential-between the direct manager and their employee.

I agree with confidential for sure.

Associate at an AmLaw 100 firm doing patent work. I applied to a part time masters program to try to pivot to a different technical field (still doing patent work, but in something that interests me more than what I’m doing now). Do I try to stick it out at the firm while getting the masters, ask for a reduced hours schedule, or get a part time, non-legal job so I can focus more on the program (one year).

UPDATE (RE: SoCal Assistant Controller Interview)

So after two weeks of waiting (and giving up on the idea of getting the job really), the recruiter got back to me.

They said due to month-end and quarter-end close they were busy and couldn’t get back to me as quickly for a “good update”.

The recruiter said the CFO enjoyed our call, she, the CFO, will call me next week directly to “discuss some final things”.

Not sure if Im hired or not, but are there any questions about the job, comp (cont.)

Hello! Has anyone ever built a campus recruiting structure for a company? Meaning they started from scratch and built out campus recruitment? What was the pros and cons? Also, what was your salary, how long did you stay there and did you enjoy building this out?

like

Is this legal? My spouses company just decided to change their comp structure for account managers. It was base + comm, now it’s commission only but nothing changed, OT commission is the same, didn’t get more points, just took away the base pay and said work harder basically. So now they have to worker harder to get $50k they were already making. (Not a decision based on employee performance, they’ve been crushing it. I think the company is just trying to save money they overspent else where)

Previously interned there & left because my supervisor did not have any growth opportunities planned out for me; this was in spite of my stellar performance, as reflected in my 90 day review.
