We don't do that at my company but I do see how it could be beneficial. That being said, coaching does need to be done beforehand. Not all feedback is constructive.

Feedback in any company is the key part of the success of the employees as well of the company. But yes it should be constructive and loyal. For this companies should give a proper training time to the employees by telling them the importance of the honest feedbacks.
Yes I agree, there’s got to be some sort of structure around how the feedback is given.

In my experience, the "crowdsourcing" of feedback was very helpful. It mitigated a manager's "halo" or "horns" effect and gave a fully picture of someone's performance and behaviors.
The feedback wasn't shared directly, as in "Mary said these words about you," but used in the manager's review of the employee to flesh out constructive feedback.

Feedback is always helpful if it's honest and constructive however, yes-it could be used in a deceptive way. IMO, reviews should be confidential-between the direct manager and their employee.
