When exiting to a direct competitor, is the policy still immediately being shown the door + notice period payout?

Lol- a friend going to PWC was expecting free 2 week - expecting to get shown the door immediately. Instead his team asked him to stick around for 2 weeks 🤣

funny

Am I your friend? Lol

like

Depends. Most do that but some also keep you if your team needs it.

like

Big 4 yes. BDO showed me the door without paying out my notice period.

like

Same sorry as well, but I did get vacation payout so that helped. Employers have the right to expedite your end date and unless severance is listed you won’t get any guaranteed.

like

Not always. Especially not if you’re switching to a new role or line of service

I have seen people stay if the team has a need

I was shown the door immediately, but then again I've always strived to be an underperformer...

Yup. PwC cut me off and paid me for the 2 weeks. It was a great time just coming off 4th of July holiday too.

Any resume writer referrals? I’m trying to make the jump into project management. I have 13YOE managing cross-departmental projects and people, and I’d like to shed the general EA work of calendars/travel/expenses. But recruiters just see my most recent role is EA and that’s all they want to talk to me about. I’m hoping a better written resume will help target algorithms to get my resume viewed for other roles.

I am a young professional... But every job interview I’ve had so far pretty much just wants to know what kind of person I am. They are as interested in my leadership/communication as much as they are in me talking about my experience.

Is this how it will always be? Or is this predominantly because I am in lower positions at this point in my career?

UPDATE (RE: SoCal Assistant Controller Interview)

So after two weeks of waiting (and giving up on the idea of getting the job really), the recruiter got back to me.

They said due to month-end and quarter-end close they were busy and couldn’t get back to me as quickly for a “good update”.

The recruiter said the CFO enjoyed our call, she, the CFO, will call me next week directly to “discuss some final things”.

Not sure if Im hired or not, but are there any questions about the job, comp (cont.)
