I can remember someone I worked with who just always managed to disappear whenever things got busy. It was uncanny. If things picked up I'd turn to look for them and they'd be missing. It was like they had a psychic power that told them to vanish just before a rush.

Totally. Always gone when things got hectic like clockwork!

I think every place has someone like this. I would actually say to them, "You're not a farmer, why are you milking the clock like that?"

Hahahha that’s hilarious!
Yes, and it’s exhausting having to carry that weight quietly. I always tried to reframe it as proof of my integrity like, “At least I know I’m showing up fully.” At my last job, I had a teammate who always “got caught up on inventory” whenever the line was out the door. I’d be drenched in sweat from the rush while they’d stroll out like nothing happened. It helped to remind myself I was building trust with the right people. How do you take care of yourself after shifts like that?

Totally get this. Been there, done that and still ended up picking up the slack quietly.
Yea I’m dealing with something similar to this now
It’s exhausting, right? You’re left picking up the slack while they stroll in and out like nothing happened.
Yep, been there. They vanish when it’s busy, show up when it’s calm—and somehow still look good to management. Did you ever call it out or just let it slide?
Exactly! Always quiet when things get chaotic, then magically reappear once it’s calm again. Wild. I used to speak up, but it often just went nowhere.
