I worked for a restaurant chain. We were opening a new market, someone came out from back east who was promised the DM position. EVERY one he hired had DM experience.
THEN the competition was bought out by a large chain. All of the executives came to work for our restaurant. New DMs (from the other chain) left en masse, and were hired.
The guy who opened the market was passed over for the DM position. EVERY restaurant manager was gone within a year, and the new DM put all of his people in. Six months later, he quit.
The restaurants, once these amazing places (average health dept score was 98), quickly went downhill. Now, they are dirty, badly run, not nearly the customer service that was once expected. And MAJOR changes to the menu, all trying to make it look like the chain everyone left.
Leadership changes definitely shake things up. From what I’ve seen, new bosses often bring in people they trust or who fit their vision. Sometimes it’s about fresh ideas, other times it’s just “their team.” Either way, it can feel like the whole vibe at work flips overnight. Have you noticed if the culture changed along with the hires?
