Apply as soon as possible. These things take time. I started applying maybe 10months out. Landed a job around 4 months out
The job market is out of whack still because of somebody who is the president. But it's never too early, and it's never too late to apply for jobs post clerkship. I ended my clerkship in September and did not have a job finalized until the month before. I also used a recruiter, which is typically a nonstarter for clerks in normal times
Why are you still talking to career services from law school post-clerkship? Apply as you see openings pop up.
You won’t necessarily be “late” but it is better to apply as early as possible. Despite top grades at a T25 school, it took me a while to get a clerkship. The interview was also 1.5 years before the job actually started.
I applied in November and heard back from my two offers December and January. Was on the early end of my cohort of clerks but felt good knowing it was done
