State bar fees while you’re clerking? Please tell it doesn’t just come out of your own pocket during the two years? 😭

Federal term clerks have to pay their own fees

like

Ask your judge.

Also, check with your state. some states allow you to switch to inactive status while you clerk, so you don't have to pay fees.

I discussed this with my judge and they informed me the judiciary where I work has a policy of not paying bar or organization fees because of the appearance of a conflict of interest, especially where the judiciary handles admission. I agree some of these fees are ridiculously steep though.

Hi Guys, Please help 🥺
I've joined ibm during Feb 2022 and assigned to a project on March.
I'm ABAP developer but doing data validation production support for one of the big client.
I don't like the work and also can say my tech lead is not happy for my deliverables.

Need advice on how to get a release from the project which I've worked for 4 months. And also wanted to know would this impact career in IBM?..

Thank you.

Still WFH? What are other chambers doing for task management? Our chambers has been keeping up with assignments, incoming emails needing judge’s eyes, and written orders, all through Microsoft Planner. We share PDFs through Sharepoint folders. Although we still email draft orders back and forth, the system seems to work well enough. We still aren’t operating at our previous capacity because it takes 10x the number of steps to get a motion heard or an order entered—90% of our workload.

Is it the smart move to take a pay cut and clerk for a judge?

Little context: I was an ED student, full time paralegal/clerk throughout my law school experience, and a single mother. I did not take advantage of the law school extracurriculars and missed out on clerk application deadlines my final year (2020). Would it benefit me to take a pay cut as a transactional clerk by about $20k to work as a clerk for a year then re-enter firm life? I’m transactional and enjoy that line of work.

I clerked right after law school and I’ve been working in BigLaw since (last 3 years). I’ve always thought career clerking for the right judge would be incredible and I may have the opportunity to do so in the next year. Has anyone gone from BL to career clerk? Interested to hear about others’ experiences and if anyone can advise where I’d likely come in on the JPS with 3 years experience and a year of prior federal clerkship service. Thanks!

I have a background in finance, having been a Finance Disbursing Officer in the Army for 6 years with one deployment in that role. Additionally, I am currently a JAG attorney and studying for my CAMS, hoping to take that exam in the next month or two. Any advice or referrals for anyone I can talk to learn more about the field? Thanks! :)
