"Work hard play hard" We squeeze our employees "Uncapped commission"" Usually just bait "We're like a family here" No thanks, I'd rather see the one I have at home
I've never seen uncapped commission as bait. In places I've got uncapped commissions, most reps are making 100K+
They won’t tell you how many reps hit quota when interviewing
On a recent interview, the manager said wow thanks for actually coming in - I had an interview last week and they never showed up. When I asked what the monthly goals would be she couldn’t answer for a variety of reasons. She couldn’t explain the basic concepts of the company and how the training would work. Advice to anyone reading this - if it feels off in ANY WAY - don’t take the job no matter how much you want to take it.
Offering me the job on the spot. Usually means they can’t keep reps and are desperate
If they won’t tell you or claim not to know percent of reps hitting or exceeding quota
The phrase "wearing many hats" basically means you're underpaid. High turnover of course.. Upper pay estimates are usually completely unrealistic as well and they won't tell you how much their average rep is ACTUALLY making, just what they could make.
Curious about the uncapped commission - elaborate why this is a red flag? Mean the quota is too high and unattainable?
It means they can’t afford to pay you an honest base salary. The picture is painted that you can work=attain an un-realistic salary through an uncapped commission. A good company has a base salary anywhere from 65,000 - 80,000 plus monthly commission along with quarterly commission. Of course you will establish a year over year sales chart and grow your expectations within time. These companies that say “uncapped commission ” have the highest turnover lol
All their reps are internal BDRs and external AEs are a measuring stick that never stay. Look at AE retention from those who were external hires vs. those BDR fresh college grads.
Why take risks when you’ve got 3 BDRs ready to steer the ship into the rocks?
Anytime they say “fast paced environment” it means they want you to do the work of 2 jobs for 1 pay.
I've had jobs with "uncapped" commission that were totally legit. You start on a pay plan that was heavily shifted towards a base salary and then the goal was to switch to "full commission" where you got a third of the profit of projects. My salary was $70k and then when I switched to full commission my pay jumped to $145k+. Some reps made $3-400k/year.
If it’s a “Family business” with a few different generations working there, you can be guaranteed there will be nepotism.
Anything SaaS startup related… Usually means high turnover, crappy leadership, crappy product, unrefined sales processes, and after hours unpaid forced fun.
When you have to pay to work there.
Yes
Fully commission base companies that tries extensively lure you with their lavish work tour.
