That’s weird. What company?
What I do/did was read the Form 10-k of the company I was referred to, and made sure I was very knowledgeable about the future of the company.
I would suggest you learn about the company and act excited about selling whatever it is they do, the CEO and the direction of the company.
If it doesn’t seem like it’s going well, ask that person why they aren’t very enthusiastic about the company they work for, and if there are red flags you need to know about. If the person has none, challenge them to bring more energy to the interview, and to get excited about the company.
@SF2 - right? I hate when people apply just to apply, and walk in not knowing a thing we do.
@OP - there seems to be a lot of news out there. I can’t find a prospectus or anything, but someone somewhere out there has an investment prospectus. That said, schedule a demo. Say you own a hotel and listen to the pitch from someone that works there. Then ask a bunch of questions about the viability of the company that you can’t find online, give the sales person an objection around the longevity of the company. Is this just a tech pump and dump or are they going to be around for the life of your investment (your hotel). Ask about support you would get - because you don’t want a sales job anywhere that won’t give your customers support.
Write everything down, particularly your concerns, and say in the interview, “I know this XYZ, and if I were to work here, I would phrase it as ABC to help close more deals.” Or, “I know you sell FGH, but I think there is a huge opp for JKL.”
A company’s recruiting process attempting to manipulate an interview with such a tactic is a huge red flag. What would be the purpose of being purposefully “low energy”. Crazy
Maybe the company is confusing lack of interest and prospect engagement with energy; And that is what I read into the comments. I’ve seen, and been involved with to many new ventures where leadership expectation is the sellers job is to convince a prospect to purchase or engage in an commercial transaction when the customer cannot find value. The whole comment of low energy just doesn’t resonate. Some of my best customers have “low energy”, but they bought millions in services because of the need and value.
One line of thinking is to mirror in some respect the tone, demeanor, and energy level of your interviewer. People generally like others that are similar to them in some respects.
Another line of thinking…is to be yourself and if the interviewer doesn’t appreciate who you really are…it wasn’t meant to be.
I thought the same thing about mirroring, too. That’s how I was trained. Low energy is kind of a vague description, though. Prepare for the interview as was suggested, research demos, product knowledge, corporate tone, etc. and be confident in your accomplishment and ability to sell for them. You can be low key and still describe your capabilities.
Control the conversation with questions. Be curious.
What’s the job?
I’m a BDR if that helps, saw your post about BDR
Haha such a weird way for them to kick off an interview 😂
If it does I wouldn’t even work there! Haha
Create excitement!
