My current role is hybrid with at least two days a week in office. However, with the potential economic downturn, I'm considering holding on to the role to supplement my income.

I’m so bad at writing the background/ facts section for briefs… it always gets heavily edited and no one is giving me constructive feedback other than “advocate more”. In contrast, my legal argument section is generally without edits. For context, first defense lit job post appellate clerkship. Is this normal?? Does anyone know how litigation finance works on the plaintiff side? If someone wanted to bring a lawsuit against their former employer would a general contingency arrangement with a plaintiff’s firm make sense? Or would one need to find funding and then contact a plaintiff’s firm to actually handle the case? I’m a transactional lawyer, so this is out of my wheelhouse.

I was hired by client to draft a form MSA and SOW (the client is a freelance HR coach). She showed her form to another freelance HR coach and now they want to use the form I made for my client and my clients asking if that’s ok? Any advice?

If you use the pomodoro method for time focus and tracking, do you bill in those increments or just keep your billablr timer going the whole time? For example, I work in 25 minute increments for large projects then I get a break. Do I bill .5 for that increment and restart my billing or keep my billing continuously going thereby not rounding up for those 5 min? I have just kept my timer going.

What is the expectation at your firms about coming into work after making your billable hours requirement? Asking especially for those who do not get a bonus per extra hour billed over the minimum.

I have a partner that calls me multiple times a day to talk about updates on our cases. Sometimes just to ask “anything to update me on?” He’s known across all of the associates for doing this. Most of the calls repeat information I’ve already provided in emails to him or the client. I normally bill this time as “strategize on” or “consider XYZ in further of” and it keeps getting appealed. Any advice?

Orally accepted a job offer that I’m excited about, but have another interview this week for a different job. I didn’t realize the first offer would come so quickly! Should I cancel the interview this week or go through with it? Small legal community- people talk.

I’m my partners only associate and I went on parental leave two weeks ago. I feel horrible for leaving him to handle our cases alone, but am trying to focus on my wife and new baby. That being said, should I still offer to handle minor matters that come in to ease the workload off my boss? He’s been super cool during my entire leave, so I don’t feel pressured to one bit.

How to switch practice areas? I’ve been in immigration for 3 years now and need a change. How do you convince employers you’re a good fit for a role you don’t have any experience with?

Thoughts on sending out assignments over the weekend? I work a lot on weekends, but I don’t expect associates too. But, because I work on weekends, I often will send out assignments by email with a clear indication in subject line and body that it does not need to be completed or worked on over the weekend. A friend recently mentioned this isn’t the best since seeing the assignment may create unnecessary stress and anxiety. So, what say you? Am I terrible partner?
