I work for an insurance company doing insurance defense fully remote other than 2-3 court appearances a month. I realistically work 20 hours a week and the once every 3 years I go to trial it’ll be closer to 40. I make $225k after bonus and although I’m basically capped at that figure other than cost of living raises, my day to day is pretty laid back. Couldn’t fathom going back to a firm and having billables and/or difficult clients.
Which company? If you’d like to leave some mystery you could say “one of these three, x, y, z,” How many years of experience? Is the bonus guaranteed? How is it calculated?
I’m in the firm’s department that does appeals and important motions (MSJ’s, MIL’s, etc) and I do a very consistent 160 to at most 180 a month. The actual hours to billables is 1:1.

How do you define "true wlb"?
Become a staff attorney and do doc review 24/7
Otherwise I'm not aware of any litigation career that would reliably be 40h/week outside of trial, even in government
If you've ever considered it, I highly recommend working for your self. I've been a solo litigator for 15 years and provide myself with a great work/life balance.
I have this in private practice, at a small boutique where I’m senior enough to have earned a lot of autonomy. My pay is crap, but I love my colleagues, like the work, and almost never need to work nights or weekends.
