Where I'm from, public sector jobs are very coveted! I rarely see people in America talk about being happy or making a good living doing a job in the public sector. And most people with an education are more focused on getting a good job at some decent company, instead of with the government. Not that I'm unaware of the current situation, but in general, do public sector jobs not have much value in the US? Except for the police dept, I guess. It's really amusing.

Public sector jobs in the US do have value, but they’re seen a bit differently here compared to some other countries. A lot of people appreciate government jobs for the stability, solid benefits, good retirement plans, and work-life balance, plus there’s a sense of doing meaningful work for the community. The trade-off is usually lower pay than what you might get in the private sector, and sometimes more bureaucracy or slower career growth.

Where are you getting the impression they don't have value?

They do have value. It’s just the current admin and its voters which believe public servants are lazy radical left liberals who don’t do anything. Couldn’t be further from the truth

I recently got diagnosed with ADHD. I'm 31 and found this only because b school and post mba consulting job was/is much more challenging than anything I did before. What I'm confused about is that even as a teenager I could read entire books overnight. But the last two years of high school I started selectively zoning out and the problem has become worse since. I just realised it now. My doctor has suggested treating depression (I was also unaware of this) with Wellbutrin first (contd)

What's the market these days for someone with not-great technical skills, 12 YOE, TS clearance, hard-to-find/unique skillset, elite masters, middle management in DoD contracting, experience with critical/high profile roles?

I'm thinking 120-135k would be bad/mediocre, 180-195k would be possible/a stretch, and 160-170k would be doable/realistic. Thoughts? Not interested in Deloitte.

Do Leidos, SAIC, and other mostly-fed consulting businesses pay bonuses to all levels? If so, what does a typical bonus target look like? Booz Allen does not pay bonuses until you get to the Senior Associate level (1 step below Director) and I think that impacts employee performance and work ethic pretty dramatically. I’m wondering if not paying bonuses is common to federal contracting because of how the contracts or priced, or if this is something unique to Booz Allen.
