Hey! Any Google folks know if it’s possible to negotiate fully remote if a contract role is hybrid? Personally, I don’t want to relocate and go to the office on a contract role given the current economy. Plus, I’m assuming contractors are the first to go in layoffs. I just think it’s a fair trade off if I’d be allowed to work fully remote. I’m also trying to have flexibility to manage my Airbnb business in a different country. Same time zone as the home office if I’d travel weeks at a time.

vHey 👋🙂 I totally get your frustration, it does feel redundant! 💼 Many companies require full applications along with a CV and cover letter because each serves a slightly different purpose: the application standardizes your info for their system, the CV highlights your skills and accomplishments, and the cover letter shows your motivation and fit for the role 📄. If you’d like guidance on streamlining applications and making your documents stand out, you can reach out to emilycartercareercoach.gmail.com, they’ve helped my brother and others optimize applications and get noticed by hiring managers 🚀. Written with chatgpt for his wife. Perfect.
I feel like the application is for data analytics and AI to sort through, the resume puts in an a legible format for a human to read.
This seems right and I hate it.
When I fill out the application portion for professional jobs that require experience, it feels a lot like I'm taking a "purity test" online that was designed for junior high students-- the kinds that asks if you've ever held hands or gone steady. Only on these applications they're asking questions about my high school years and it's not just checking for diploma and leaving room for accomplishments. Will I miss out on professional jobs because I can't remember something from 30+ years ago? Then we get into the realm of age discrimination that can go either direction.
It’s an intentional layer of UX friction to weed out the people who are serious about the role vs. those who are not. “Easy Apply” is just too easy.
I guess so, I’m happy to follow out an application I just don’t want to also write a cv and cover letter.

Honestly I don't even know how to write a cover letter. Even if I did I would probably struggle.
They’re honestly pretty hard to write a good one anyway.
This! I believe you may've answered your own question though. They need to see whose lying before paying for a background check, just a process of elimination.
I AGREE!
I completely understand your point. Many professionals face similar questions about promotions, raises, and whether they’re being fairly compensated.
