Why do veterans feel so proud of their careers? This is not intending to throw shade at them, just a question!

Many veterans went to the battlefield and came back alive, saved others, protected our country's shield, and defended our country and other countries, I think it's a lot to be proud of.

Being a war veteran is something that puts you on another level, for example in the Vietnam war many died many returned with problems because of the war, the simple fact of returning alive is a major achievement.

I am a war veteran and I am proud to defend my country, to do justice, and to be today a functional person for my country and family despite all the things I experienced and all the horrors I saw, I am a Vietnam veteran.

Many movies romanticize the sacrifice of one soldier and leave them as a hero, but I have always thought that I hate that. Why would someone need to lose his life to be a hero? I believe the mere fact that we put our life at risk in service is enough to be a hero
