It's so annoying
It's easier to get people to agree to something through words than text, and you can pick up a lot more about intonation and sentiment through speech. It's also less work to have the dialogue in one shot than an email chainz
It all boils down to averages. To a recruiter their time is a resource. They only have so much of it and must allocate it to the candidates they feel have the best chances of landing them a payday. Requesting a phone call is an easy test to see who is really serious about searching for a new job. If a candidate can't take 10 minutes for a quick call, then they're probably not actively looking to leave and a recruiter doesn't want to waste their resources on them. It's a very easy test to see who is for real and who isn't.
Agree- IF it's an option.
Email at the initial stage is good, but at some point there should be a phone call. I had a hiring manager that tries to ask me interview questions over several emails. Finally I get pissed and suggested a phone interview; I received yet another email telling me they rejected my application. Ridiculous.
The thing is I've already spoken with them.
