With shifting economic landscapes and job markets, a number of my colleagues and friends working tech have shown interest in switching to a career in skilled trades because of steady income and demand. I can never wrap my head around it coming from a core tech background. Do you ever think of pursuing skilled trades as a backup?

Any kind of work that can be done on a computer can be automated with AI. Blue collar is going to become the new white collar. Thankfully I'm in the 4th quarter of my career but if I was just starting out I'd be an electrician or something. If I got laid off now, considering my age and the job market, I have little confidence I'd find another job in tech. To answer your question, I'm an avid RVer so I'm considering a side business doing RV service work. I also have an empty property that I rent out to other RVers periodically. In these times it's good to have multiple streams of income.

12 yrs into my career and my decade younger brother with no degree has equaled my income after 2yrs of starting a company doing soft pressure washing. Ya, i have thought a lot about jumping ship from tech. Feels like it would be such a waste of these talents though. Blows my mind how little I'm worth after all these years.

I know ageism is an issue. That's got to be maddening. I've been pretty modest with my spending so far, and heavily saving, in hopes that i will be equipped to retire early when the corporations decide to treat me that way.

As a homeowner who just had to replace our HVAC system and now has to call a plumber due to a leak, I definitely can see the value in skilled trades! I know someone who switched from product manager to electrician. It seems like it could be very rewarding and satisfying in a way that working in tech might not be.

I had to get a hysterectomy at age 39 due to endometriosis (stage 4). I’m 42 now & greatly suffering from menopause. One doctor said that going on hormone therapy greatly increases my risk for endometriosis to return and become cancerous however another doctor told me this isn’t an exact science. I’m getting conflicting answers to whether or not I should do hormone therapy and it seems like I can’t get a straight answer to this question. Does anyone know anything about this?

I received an offer for 80k to work as a desktop engineer for TCS at one of their client’s locations. However, I have seen poor reviews for working at TCS and I’d like to get some feedback from anyone currently or had previously worked for that company. What is the environment like and has anyone been in a situation where the contract with TCS and the client ended and had trouble with TCS finding them a new role at the same pay?

Hello, I'm hearing product management is the space to be if you want to see a considerable bump in pay. What is the path forward to reach that role? Quick question.
I was a contractor for a big company and they just let me know that my last day is December 30th. I got this position thanks to a recruiting company that has been great and gives me benefits.
Should I:
- Continue working with the recruiting company, hoping that they will find another position for me? (as they told me they will, and when they applied me I started working with my current company within 2 weeks)
- Work with the recruiter + apply for jobs on my own?
