I don’t get how hunting is divise. It’s the most ethical and responsible way to source meat.

+ as much as people hate “trophy hunting” it’s a legitimate business that supports conservation and helps to combat poaching in very vulnerable areas
That dentist paying $20k to shoot a “big game” in Africa is what’s keeping the lights on in the preserves.

Sounds like you answered the question yourself
I should have clarified - I think it would be divisive, so I was surprised when it was brought up on a work call. Similar to how I would be surprised if someone were to bring up politics. But I wasn’t sure if it was a milder topic than I thought.
Agree with the above. I wouldn’t do it, but it’s a shame hunting has that kind of rep. Hunters are very involved in volunteering for and funding wildlife conservation, and it’s way better than factory farmed meat.
More broadly, thanks to FDR’s Pittman-Robertson Act, there’s a healthy excise tax on guns & ammo that funds habitat preservation to the tune of ~$750M/yr.
I’d be careful who you discuss it with but their are clients and partners who you might gain some points with. I had a teammate who went on a hunting trip for his Bach party and he is now our clients favorite

I don’t bring it up but when the client does I go along and ask questions explaining I’m not a hunter.
I view those conversations as building trust and confidence. I don’t let my personal views impact work like that.
IMO: Depends on the audience. In the South / Midwest, I would love if my constituents discussed this topic. If I were working with any other region, definitely would abstain from discussing. You could also test the waters by bringing up fishing; those who like to fish probably also appreciate hunting.
Talk less. Smile more.
Have talked to clients about it who I know also hunt; outside of that though I don’t bring it up because too many people are too opinionated without knowing facts. Even though I harvest what I need for food, some people can’t get past that. If I have already taken what I need I will often at my own expense hunt more for game management purposes and donate via Hunters for the Hungry which works with processors to do the butchering for a reduced cost with all the meat going to shelters and needy families.

Yup, I’d proceed with caution.
This is probably in the same category as gun control or abortion..
I am not a hunter, but sure, I see nothing wrong with it. Nothing divisive about it unless you make it divisive. 🤷♂️

Sure. Not a hunter but people regularly hunt on our property (with permission). We would be about overrun without them and they always bring us some deer sausage or similar. It’s nice.

One of my former clients in Pennsylvania shut down for the first week of deer season. It was definitely a safe topic with them
I don’t know if divisive is the correct word but it would make me very uncomfortable. I don’t need to hear about your hunting trip and the animals you bagged. 🤷♀️
