M2 don’t hate on Indian people, I’ve had Chinese people do the too and other races too. Sounds like you want to stir up something here.
🤣
Ok seriously enough you guys. What’s the big deal here? I addressed a peer by his last name 15y ago and, although we are in diff goes and no longer work with each other, we still do that with each other for fun. Come on. Some things matter. Others don’t. This is obviously a genuine mistake. Let it go.
narrow escape
I wish I could like this twice... seasoned consultants who knows where the bodies are buried but has a sense of humor left to help one another get by... you’re what makes FB great
Almost all the Indian folks on my team refer to Julie Sweet as Sweet Julie 😆
But like, non-ironically though? I mean a name like that is just begging for an inversion.
Seriously. Why?
Yes I agree. That’s super strategic! 🤣
Feel like a lot of Indian people do this to me. I have a normal American first name and a Chinese last name...it can't be that hard to figure out which is which.
SC2 - neither do I...I actually found M2’s statement ignorant and insensitive and wanted to turn it on its head so he/she could see how it sounded when his/her own ethnicity was inserted.
SC2 - I agree and I think it’s ok. Genuine mistake. Incidentally “2” above (wait I mean “M 2”) doesn’t seem to agree.
I’m seriously mind-boggled. Is calling by last name a serious social faux pas?? I never knew that.
I’m not American, can someone please explain this a little more to me?
IT’S NO BIG DEAL, OP. GET A LIFE AND FIND BIGGER FISH TO FRY.
I appreciate the petty. Get this usually from telemarketer-types. Have a common last name that can sound like a first name... if you can’t bother to read from the correct column, bah bye.
Well saying “hi Mr Doe” for someone named John Doe isn’t wrong in my books. Being an indian, it was infinitely difficult for me to get used to calling people , especially people up in the ranks from me by their first names.
Now if OP means the email said Hi Doe, that’s not very nice.
Also will people start educating the “indian people” that are always pointed out if there is something they are unaware of about American culture? We are not dumb you know 🤦♀️
Pretty sure the latter is what OP means...
Sure, non-Western sounding named can be confusing, especially when the names are more than 2 words long. In my org, names are displayed "<last name>, <first name>". No one inside the org should have any confusion with a 2-word name. Which both our names are.
No excuses except simple carelessness.
that's next level shit. you will be contacted again.
It’s not and this isn’t a topic worth further discussion. Period.
Wait is this really serious? I have been called my last name before but always assumed it’s just an innocent mistake on the senders’ end. I’ve also accidentally made the mistake myself mostly when the person’s last name does sound like a first name. Is it really necessary to assume bad intentions on the other side and retaliate?
Yeah, I think Op needs to file a lawsuit against his superior.
