Where/ how can I learn Azure?
How do you all deal with the guilt of leaving a comany/ team? I have been working at Microsoft for 1 year now, and seriously considering moving. I find the code base to be very legacy and I mostly work on obscure bugs that I spend so much time on, mostly due to navigating this large code base and not having much docs to refer to. Hence I find the job slightly unsatisfying, and that I could learn more elsewhere. However, I love the wlb, the team and company culture. The guilt stops my applying.

Having contracted for a while now and desperate to get back to FTE, I probably wouldn’t. But it depends how long the contract is, the difference in compensation, what the market is likely to be like when the contract ends, and how strong your network is. Don’t forget that contractors often pay their own healthcare and usually don’t have other company benefits like 401k match. So make sure to consider the total package where you are when comparing. It also matters how you plan to use the pay bump.. like if it helped you open a new business in a year that you couldn’t otherwise (just for example).
I would consider the actual tangible package. Depending on your age, for example, a 401k might or might not make sense, having funds you can’t use for the next 30 years its not helpful, specially when you don’t have any guarantees you will get there alive.
In contrast, if you need the extra money to invest it on your own or in a different way, that will move the needle vs if you have no plans at all and are just thinking on extra few dollars with no purpose.

I’m with you. I think it’s been the last five years really.. I’ve seen many switch jobs like it’s nobody’s business but I’ve only changed when I really needed to
