Would you say favoritism is common in your workplace? Have you seen any instances of it happening? If so, what gets people preferential treatment at your firm?

This is one of the great mysteries of the law firm workplace. It’s not about doing good work or even making the client happy but about being controllable. I guess the people in power just want things to stay mediocre but manageable.

like

Yes, preferential treatment comes from knowing how to befriend the leadership. Not doing a good job.

Hi, weird question for this forum, so I apologize. I’m trying to be creative here and use the tv stand that I have. The issue is that it has an open back so you can see all my tv wires. I can’t hide the wires because my building won’t let me open the wall. My idea was to slip a tile sheet that is wall behind the tv stand as a back, but I need the tile cut to the specific heigh and width of the tv stand. Does anyone know where I can take this tile sheet to get cut to the specific measurements?

Foreign LLM student here. I plan to take the NY bar exam in February. I’m thinking of taking a bar prep course (most likely Barbri). They offer two options: the “traditional” course (which lasts around 2.5 months) and an extended 6-month course. The difference in price is substantial – 2.5k for the traditional course vs 6k for the extended one. Any thoughts/recommendations on which one I should take? In case it is helpful, I come from a civil law country. Thanks!

Has a partner ever come back and asked you why you spent so much time on certain things? Im a first year and this hasn’t happened to me at my firm and they tell us not to cut our own time, but my first firm (short stint, small firm) did this to me allll the time and made me feel guilty — so just curious if this has happened to anyone in big law.
