It really just depends. These kinds of questions are relative. If I was making 60k, taking a 20k pay cut would be a terrible decision just to work remotely.
Pro
Yes from 60k to 40k is a drastic change! I wouldn’t change either!
No, I have been hybrid for the last year and I enjoy my days in the office. Prior to being hybrid, I work remote for three years and it can get lonely. I do not have children so perhaps that would change my perspective
Pro
Not having children helps a ton since they are expensive!
As much as I would love to be fully remote, I could never afford to take a 20k pay cut. I am the only provider for my family of five and money is stretched enough as it is. Wish I was in a position to do otherwise, but it wouldn't be possible for me at this time.
Pro
That is understandable. Have to provide for your family!
Depends on the salary. 100K to 80K, no. $500K to $480K, yes
Pro
Yes, the more you make the less relevance this has!
Yes, I would. I live 45 minutes away from my job and this can be brutal during rush hour. I know I spend 20 hours a week commuting so I can make that 20k back with the time I save.
Pro
Very nice!!!
Not sure if I have this right, but wouldn’t you be able to spend $2k to fly yourself back for the one week a year? Or is this about the company saying you have to live in the state/locality where you are assigned?
