I would not base it solely on the net additional income ($20K less tax, commuting costs, etc). Career progression is huge. I am assuming both of these are new positions? Being remote is great to save money and WLB but you are young and still climbing the ladder. Making professional and personal connections will pay dividends later on. Being remote you would mostly communicate by phone or zoom or similar platform with your immediate team members. Being in person, at a managerial level would give you exposure to others from the company and even external stakeholders (legal, HR, finance, operations, etc). You also might meet interesting people and make friends or even find a partner. I know remote is all the rage but it does not always make it the best. Especially at earlier career levels. If you were late career with kids and family, absolutely go remote because that marginal increase is not worth it then.
Best advice by far!
Ignoring bonus and career progress, you have a 20k taxable income difference. You being single, I would put you at 27% bracket, that’s said the difference in net income is 14.6k. (52-4=48)*3 days=144 days a year. Assuming 2 hours commute, 1 hour getting ready, commuting cost, additional lunch cost, additional cost for clothes vs pajamas. Factor all these in and make a conclusion.
Career progression is an important factor. It will make it worth it. When you start having kids, senior manager on leave vs senior accountant, which one will stress you out more? I'm assuming that it will be faster to move to SM than to move from SA to manager.
How far is the commute? Simple math is add that to a 40 hour work week and divide and see pay per hour
Agreed with PwC 1
Personally, I would take the remote role. My time is very valuable to me.
Fully remote. Commuting adds much more stress and anxiety to your career.
Fully remote!
