Would you take the offer or stay?

Current job: 96k per year, 10 minutes commute each way, 5 days a week on site.

Offer: 120k per year, 1 hour - 1 hour 15 minutes commute each way, 3 days a week on site.

Ooof that is so tough. I would probably take the new offer though. I hate the commute but three days a week is better than five.

That's a no brainer. More money, similar commute over all, plus more flexibility.

You’re telling me it takes 4 hours to get dressed an extra 2 days a week? 🤨

Would the new role offer career advancement or leadership exposure? If not, I'd first explore whether your current company could increase your salary by around $10K. You'd preserve your work-life balance and avoid adding about five extra hours of commuting each week. The added time, fuel cost, and stress could easily outweigh the pay difference unless the new position truly opens doors for your long-term goals. Wishing you all the best on whatever decision you decide.

Commute is a deal breaker for me. That’s so much time 3 days a week you’d be sinking. Not to mention late nights or when the company starts asking you to come in more often then that commute tacks on. Also compare health insurance imo. Can be a big hidden cost / benefit you don’t think about until later.

Any young kids? The commute would be a deal breaker for me because my husband already has a long commute and I wouldn’t want both of us being that far away if something were to happen.

I would do it bc it’s not fully onsite

That’s a no brainer for me - more money and less days at the office. Maybe let’s start with: What made you doubt?

Oh man. Probably new offer

Got offered 68k after 2 years as a contractor (62.5k) doing project management/business admin in a tech department at a Fortune 500 bank. I have an A.S degree and working on my bachelor’s/masters may 2024. I negotiated to 84k NYC. I have seen interns get offered 38 per hour (79k) for internship positions with a similar role.

Thoughts? Should I go higher? I do my job well that’s why they decided to keep me as a contractor after my internship.

I’m interviewing for a marketing manager role at a company based in SF. I’m genuinely excited about the role and the company but we’ve yet to discuss salary. I expect to be asked at some point, but my research has given me a VERY broad range. So I’m here to do a bit more research. I’ve got 5 very relevant years of experience and will have an associate manager directly reporting to me. Are there any marketers out there who can share their salaries in similar regions and experience levels?
