Move if you want to live in NYC.
Living life by prioritizing where is the most financial savvy is a waste imo. As long as you can afford it, go live the experiences you want to live.
That’s great perspective, thank you :)
Yeah if you genuinely just want to maximize your financial situation, then I guess Philly is the best bet.
At that level, you will be fine regardless. Forreal just go where you want to

Because DC is so cheap?
Pro
Move to NYC. Ditch your car and live in a small studio or get a roommate. You’ll break even on monthly spend and figure out where you want to be while your life is still cheap. You know what’s really expensive? Living in Philadelphia and not making a connection that’ll get you in a top tier firm or living in DC and realizing all the action in finance is either in Chicago or NY so you have to move a whole family to the city but aren’t familiar with the schools, commute, or neighborhood.
You really want to live in Philly?
Philly is amazing. NY and DC are awful.
If you can minimize rent and get by without a car, do it. The network you make will be invaluable.
