This is very telling of the culture of the employer. They expect you to be fully dedicated to work. The reason they likely have outstanding other compensation is that they are burning out resources. Giant 🚩

I dunno man. If everything else is great, including pay, just take unpaid leave. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ It all work out in the end. If annual pay is $100k, that’s the max amount you are getting even with PTO. If pay is $150k, take a week of unpaid leave still net out at >$100k. Don’t get me wrong one week is pathetic but to me it’s just a math problem. 😄
This somehow feels illegal but I know it’s not??? Like two weeks is the bare minimum at this point

Negotiate/ask for more PTO
Yup. No way i take this offer in its current form
Minus the PTO the other benefits blows my current benefits out the water. 100% 401k match, comparable health insurance, They even offer free fully covered pet insurance. But one week PTO??????????

1 week pto. Plus unlimited sick leave
Still garbage because all that says to me is that unless you are sick, you are allowed no personal life. F THAT.

Most bosses don't care/track your PTO. Feel them out before you turn it down
That may be true as if this could backfire. If employee-employer relations deteriorate down the road, they could use it against me and hold it over my head if they’re trying to get rid of people next year during the great stagflation. “He didn’t show up to work today? Fired with cause!” You know the shady BS employers or managers will pull. At least actual PTO has some legal protections. Too risky and will decline offer unless real PTO offered, not under the table PTO
