A lot of people complain about millennials but a Gen Z clerk just told me that she wasn’t going to download some documents from a deal site because they were so many (and she had to download one document at a time) and I should review them directly on the site.

Bro, what?

In my opinion all these youth complaints are just about individuals that maybe have problems related to a lack of experience but do not represent the world's stock of young people. When you were young you probably weren't perfect you're probably still not perfect now, maybe you're more likely to notice it when someone different than you is imperfect but that doesn't mean that you are

@author: Yeah, but unquestioningly doing something is the hallmark of things not changing, which was my point. I think in the next few years, firms are going to have to rethink how to train and retain associates if this trend continues. The juniors (unfortunately) know their worth as frustrating as it is for the rest of us. Until a recession hits anyway.

I need to know how this ended

Me too!!

I have a Gen X/elder millennial legal assistant/secretary who does the same thing. Some legal assistants feel it’s below their pay grade which then asks the question, what do you get paid to do?

meh I have a 35 yr old, solidly millennial junior who refuses to work … so not sure it’s just gen z

Trying to make the move to in house but most of my career has been litigation in various areas of law. I am trying to pick up some transactional work to get more experience. I am a quick learner and have no doubt I can move into more in house areas but it’s so hard to even get an interview to explain. Very few entry level jobs when I graduated and now can only get jobs in the stuff I don’t want to do anymore.

I’m an associate at a boutique firm making under market with 1950 hours req. While I absolutely love the people I work with, and I can handle the hour requirement, the work I actually do is just not my cup of tea (abt 80% insurance defense). I’m hoping to lateral to a bigger firm with lockstep or close to lockstep comp and generally more resources/better mentorship opportunities in the business lit./commercial lit. space. Any tips for going about successfully making the switch?

Just verbally accepted an offer to become the newest partner at a much bigger firm in town after 5+ years slaving for a smaller firm that told me they would only “let” me be of counsel (and pay rent equal to my current salary) or stay an associate. So long, late nights with no bonuses! Adios, screaming phone calls out of the blue! WOOOOO!!!!!!!!

Any tips on leaving a firm “correctly”? Was about to go “of counsel” with my firm of 6 years, but then another firm whose partners I really respect (and personally like) offered me a partnership position. I predict my current bosses will *flip* (cut off file access immediately, try to beat me to calling my clients, etc.), so how do I set myself up for a successful transition?

Nothing like the named partner who you *know* is actively opposed to associate salary increases (despite living in a market where the COL has significantly risen and outpaced general inflation) telling you about how annoying it is to winterize her 4 mega luxury sailboats she has on her waterfront dock. 🙄
