In my experience, get a data analyst role at a consulting firm (they’re more loose with the title/job description), so you’ll have that title of data analyst but also exposure to the actual work while having the leeway to learn as you go. And take that experience to industry where you’ll likely be doing more in depth stuff. But definitely know tableau/looker, sql and some python before you start!
Appreciate the advice and insight! Pretty knowledgeable in Tableau and SQL and in the process of learning Python. Looking at consulting firms isn’t something I really thought of, I really should’ve considered that originally
Basically in the same boat as you, OP! Lmk if there are any resources for Tableau & SQL that you found helpful
No prob, best of luck (to both of us!)
1. Just know somebody to help you get an in. You have the skills but these roles can be competitive. So tap into your network or linkedin! Or go through a consulting agency to get you in
2. How can you be "knowledgeable in SQL/Tableau" with never having used it? I should phrase it as "studied" or "learning" and also showing and saying how you're very interested in using it and learning more
I appreciate this advice, super helpful! As for SQL/Tableau, yes probably better to phrase it as just having learned it (although I have made few SQL tables/Tableau dashboards in my free time with my own data)
But I’m definitely going add that I’m extremely interesting in learning it more :)
