If you’re in Mar Comm, can you please share what you use to measure your success and ultimately communicate your value in the company? What are your targets, top priorities, and how do you know you’re hitting the mark??
I think the best way to overcome this is by setting your own personal target, based on what you think your boss would want you to achieve. This way, even if you're not given any specific instruction, you'll at least have an idea of what you should be working on. And if your boss does give you some instruction, you can always refer back to your personal target and see how it matches up.
In my experience, it's helpful to set some clear targets for yourself and then check in with your boss periodically to see if you're on track. If your boss isn't able to give you specific feedback, ask them what they generally look for in your work. That way, you can be sure to stay on track and improve in the areas that are most important to them.
