These days most AD’s just use midjourney for comps. I’m not saying anyone be an art director, but it’s a whole lot easier to pick up that skill. At least for key visuals for decks.
You are right.
Most copywriters come up with the concepts (textual and visual, across all platforms) and work with others to bring them to life. Because of that most successful CDs I know come from the copy side, since good writers also tend to turn into (with enough experience) good art directors (if not fully fledged designers) and excellent collaborators with a team mindset.
And, we writers also help come up with the strategy as well!
Feels like the opposite to me, at least agency side.
At least 90%.
On the art side you have a whole technical skill library (Adobe, Photoshop, Midjourney, etc) that most people don't have.
With writing, anyone can do it (doing it well is whole other thing). I've seen accounts folks, even the CEO of a company write copy for ads. So less of a need for very senior writing talent. Then you add AI and there's even less of a need.
Different senior copywriter here. AI could never replace HI. Fluency and literacy are not the same as finesse and linguistic prowess.
Certainly not at the hand of people allergic to poetry and whose only feedback or direction is “make it sound more human”— even to a software program.
Not saying it won’t happen. Just saying it won’t work. Ad avoidance would reach an all-time high. The industry would suffer.
