Am I wrong to think it is inappropriate to have politics playing on the TVs in our office? Specifically, Fox News on every television, in the reception area, throughout the office…

It would piss me off too, they could play a non-partied news station. Fox News is known trash. I’d rather they play Jerry Springer reruns all day.

Local news is better. Fox and CNN all day is toxic.

Yes

Why does it bother you? You don’t own the office or pay any of the bills there. Unless it’s playing in your work area and you can’t focus because of noise, just get over it

Yes. I don't want to know my attorney's politics.

So everyone here thinks politics playing constantly in an office space IS APPROPRIATE?

like

I think it’s inappropriate. That would be uncomfortable to experience everyday at work

Everyone has the right to a voice. And to have their own opinions. However, I find it extremely inappropriate to have specifically politic-related news openly in the office.

like

Same in our office. I don’t care about what’s playing on the TVs.

Let me guess Rachel Maddow would be okay? You get to choose when your name is on the door.

As I said… I do not think politics are appropriate in the office. I simply noted that in my office, specifically, it is Fox News. I didn’t say “I wish they’d play what I want to hear”

You mean you don't like watching white male rage coming from Fox News?

like

It's called freedom of speech, if you don't like it don't listen, it's that simple! You are at work; you should focus on that and not what is going on around you. That is what is one of problems in a corporate office lately, people paying attention to other people's likes or dislikes, or what may offend them instead of being productive. We are not a communist country, although I think many would like it to be, especially those who are uneducated or have not experienced first-hand what communism really is!!!

How can they focus if the TVs are on all day. Why? Whose bright idea was that? Be better off playing Muzak.

Perhaps ask them to turn the closed captioning on & the sound off as a compromise.

But I am not sure without any practical knowledge, will I get a job at this many years of experience in a different profile.

What is the average paralegal salary in NC for a commercial real estate law office? I’ve been with a great firm for the last 9 years but am starting to wonder if I’m being compensated fairly. The company is about 30 employees (mostly attorneys) but I work primary for 4 of the attorneys.

How do you know when it is time to move on. I am the only litigation paralegal billing over 2,500 a year consistently. Love the boss I work the most for but that person has grown distant. Are any other paralegals struggling with billable hour requirements? I have 5 years of experience in corporate transactions, M&A, and real estate work, and have never had billable hour requirements. I'm in a new job now where I do and I'm nowhere near meeting them. I'm getting a lot more admin work than billable work, and it's stressing me out.

Paralegals: My firm is looking for a paralegal, and I see the job posting advertising the salary as $65-$75k, with benefits. Is this a good salary for a paralegal (Greater LA area)? I’m not the decision maker, but it’s been a few weeks with very few applicants. I’m curious if there’s something hurting the firm in its search.

Where do you find the time to get everything done in the day when you have multiple partners, associates and equity partners that interrupt you and want things turned around immediately while simultaneously working on deadlines? I feel like I’m the only one that can’t manage a 70+ case load without letting someone down. I constantly have to say “Can I do this tomorrow?” Etc. I don’t even have time to bill on the clock. I work until 7p at least every night. Top 10 family law firm.

I did it! I got an in-house Paralegal position after years of working and being burned out at different law firms. Prayerfully, this transition will be a good one.

Hi everyone. Is it typical for the attorney to take credit for the work a paralegal does? An example: I gave some ideas about deposition questions and some observations I made (I was asked about giving suggestions) regarding a witness and the attorney mentioned that he’s the one that had these great questions/observations. Zero credit or thank you for the work I did.

Are there any fully remote lawfirms, ie you don't have to live in the state they have offices? I recently left a large lawfirm to go in-house which came with a huge paycut that is not going to be sustainable long term, but needed a remote position to be able to move. I'd like to keep my current job part-time but get back in a lawfirm too.

My boss (atty) is so disorganized! I’ve been with him 6 months and he’s having a hard time delegating, sharing info and managing deadlines. I’ve organized the caseload to manage the deadlines. He says he wants me to help with discovery but when I offer to start on one, he says he needs to do it. (Since he might have to present as evidence) When I give him deadlines and ask for the docs he says he’ll get to it. It’s a small 1 man firm, and I’m the first assistant besides his wife. Any advice?
