At the end of the day, loyalty doesn’t pay the bills.
Move on. It seems difficult, I know, but future you will be thankful.
2500!? That’s insane. Get out now and get your life back.
Loyalty gets you nothing but a knife in the back. Start looking for a better paying job with better hours. Staying is making you miss out on opportunities that may just be right for you.
Why would you work that much? They going to make you partner someday?
As a younger paralegal I struggle to understand where any leadership was drawing lines with attorneys before I joined the field. Obviously everything within reason. There are times, like trial, where your all is required.
I am sorry you're underpaid and underappreciated. The hours your working read to me as anxious. If you're going to roll over and take it... That's why you're underpaid.
There are TONS of unfilled support staff jobs in law and they need filling. We arent competing with JDs. When you're not afraid to leave a company, you're free. However, no one will probably listen to me and probably rightfully so I don't doubt I'll get smacked a few times with lessons myself. I'm not saying to be unreasonable but our job takes more skill and field knowledge than most assistant positions. I have ever evolving lines being drawn with what I will do for what I'm paid and that means being comfortable with the idea of walking away.
Sounds like you are both overworked and underpaid, so I would say it is time to start looking for a new position. There are a lot of opportunities out there. Good luck! (Billing 2,500 sounds like pure hell to me!)
Which office are you in?
I’m right where you are. And have been with my firm for 24 years. It’s tiring, frustrating and depressing. I just actually interviewed at another firm. Still torn myself. But sounds like we are both being taken advantage of and it’s time for us to move on and get the respect we deserve. Clearly you’re great at what you do to have the hours. So my advice - either make a demand for what you deserve or go somewhere else and get it.
2500?!? I hope you are making at least 6 figures to make that even remotely worth it. If you aren’t, get out now. There’s a lot of great places hiring.
2500?!?! Yikes!!
