Any advice on how I shop my book of transferable business as a Senior Associate from a smaller firm? Rates are competitive (think $500-$650) and I have some large cases.

I would work with a recruiter. They'll be able to communicate to the right people that you have a book.

Just wanted to say congrats on the business. What has your business development strategy been?

Thank you! I have a young attorney cheat code - look older and more experienced than your age. Decision makers automatically assume that I’m more experienced. This has helped me with decision makers and with attorney referrals.

As far as my strategy, I try to speak on a topic in my practice area at least once a quarter. I’m a frequent poster on LinkedIn and keep myself top of mind. The rest of it has been a combination of luck and results for my clients. Happy clients are the best referral sources.

Talk to a reputable recruiting firm that has been around for a while, maybe Kinney or MLA

Not MLA in TX. Message me and happy to recommend a TX based recruiter.

What city? I did this exact thing and my advice would be to avoid a recruiter.

I know the thought process and stuff but 'I' wasn't the one who did that part in the project. How to convince them that I could do the job without taking credit of others.

How do you manage keeping track of and responding to teams chats and emails in a timely manner? I have a hard time addressing chats when I am focused on something else, because I know it will completely derail me. But then I forgot to circle back to the chat when I’m done and I’ve recently been told that my response time is unacceptable and needs to improve, but I’m truly unsure how to improve.

Additional Posts in Texas Big Law & Elite Boutiques

I’m a 4th-year at a midsize firm doing mostly oil and gas work, but I’m looking to change practice areas so I can get away from a dying/morally problematic industry and move into EC/VC, Corporate, tech transactions, and/or privacy and cybersecurity (have CIPP/US & /E). I’m not having much luck with recruiters or applying directly to firms and companies, so I’m thinking of hiring a career coach to help me hone my applications, cover letters, etc. Any suggestions?

I wasn’t sure which bowl to solicit advice from so hoping to catch a bite here. I’m currently in ID. Of course, I want OUT! My interests are L&E and corporate. My options are 1) wait it out where I am in hopes to switch to L&E or 2) in house oil and gas industry transactional work. What would you do and why? I figured this bowl being specific to Texas would understand importance of oil and gas industry.

I’m a non-TX immigration attorney mentoring a UT student who went to my undergrad. He’s done incredibly well in OCI and pre-OCI. Thus far, he’s landed interviews with (all in Houston): Baker Botts, Sidley Austin, Kirkland, Winston Strawn, Reed Smith, Norton Rose, and Locke Lord. Also Perkins Coie in Dallas. He’s leaning transactional, but also open to litigation. Any insights/advice on these firms in the TX market? Any to avoid?
