Any ERISA litigators here? If so, how’s the practice area generally, what’s the billables like, how’s your WLB and day to day, pros and cons of the area, etc. staffed on a few ERISA lit matters lately and want insights before I continue raising my hand diving in further. TIA.

I just put in my notice at my company for a new job that only cleared level 1 wages (and certainly wouldn’t clear whatever 45th percentile is). Haven’t filed the transfer yet. How screwed am I? Should I ask my new job to file the transfer without premium processing in the hopes that the new DOL wage rule gets struck down by the time my transfer is processed?

Someone here asked recently which candidate would be better for workers like us who are here legally with all the credentials, paying US taxes just like Americans. I kind of laughed inside and I still do. Why even ask? Did any other administration excessively hate us this much to the point the rules changed substantially gazillion times a year? Let’s be real. This is nothing more than direct targeting of us. How can anyone not know which is at least less worse? 😂

Is Operations paid the least at your respective firms? I was hired to a Client Service Delivery role with a heavy focus on project management. I regularly interface with leadership internally and at the client. But, I am aligned to the “Operations” capability and make the least of my teammates who perform seemingly identical work but are aligned to “Strategy and Consulting.” I worry I’m on a career path to being paid the least wherever I go, because Operations is in my title and background.

Does anyone know any good tips of what entry level positions I should look into?

How do you deal with a Midlevel who tells the partner you’ll cover for them, but gives you less than 24 hours notice they’ll be gone without asking if you can cover? “Keep costs down”???? I am happy to keep costs down by not working on this ducking matter anymore. Do you think partners in law firms have too much power and autonomy? eg. the power to refuse leave, to do your annual appraisal, to make you work while on leave, to overwork people, to manage the team on their on terms etc. Is this power bad or good for the firm and the team overall?

I applied to a part time masters program to try to pivot to a different technical field (still doing patent work, but in something that interests me more than what I’m doing now). Do I try to stick it out at the firm while getting the masters, ask for a reduced hours schedule, or get a part time, non-legal job so I can focus more on the program (one year).
