I haven’t been in the office since the pandemic (we were remote optional beforehand). I’m at a large firm but represent small law firms as outside General Counsel. I’d consider virtual office space if you want clients to be able to pop in you can just have set office hours, best of both worlds.
I'm in a small firm doing workers' comp, and I've worked from home almost entirely since COVID. I'm in the office only for the occasional deposition or mediation and to pick up hearing materials. Probably 20 times or so in the last couple years.
You can be accessible, but on your own work from home schedule. If a client insists on actually seeing you, you can suggest a video conference to start. That will appease a lot of clients. But if they need to see you in person, just calendar something when it's convenient for you. If someone "stops by," tell whoever is at your office's front desk to tell them you're in court. Clients always like to hear that their attorneys are duking it out in the courtroom, whether it's actually true or not.
This is really helpful! Thanks for sharing your insight :)
That's what gatekeepers are for.
If someone calls in, my secretary takes their name number and basic info about their matter.
If someone randomly shows up in the office, my secretary takes their name number and some basic info about the matter.
I try not to reward people for inconvenience me by trying to circumvent my process.
This is my concern as well. My firm allowed us to work from home twice a week. I'm not really sure how and where to start.
