Any other supervising lawyers noticing that some of their juniors are in their overconfident phase? Maybe this issue is correlated with the new grads joining next month but I forgot how rough the “I know everything” phase can be.

This. Constantly thinking “the f@&$ is going on”

Perhaps now it is you who should “plz fix” from now on and let us take it from here.

Ahh okay, so the “plz fix”-es now come from both above and below. Got it. Good to be reminded of all the perks of being a senior associate.

Dying at the parenting metaphors. At least I have my biglaw bbs since I don’t have any real ones. 😂 I kind of want to take embarrassing pics to put up if/when they one day make partner but they’d be boring screenshots of them saying dumb shit instead of cake smeared all over their face or whatever.

Yes!

Can you please provide some examples of what you mean by overconfident phase? We’re also getting criticized for still needing a lot of hand-holding for some things by this point.

Got it, and his behavior’s a bit… excessive. Curious what else everyone means by “overconfident.”

I’m have a new theory about why juniors always feel like idiots and wanted to see if anyone else thinks this makes sense. I’m a third year, and am the most junior person all of my teams (generally me, a senior or two, and a partner or two), and I always feel like I’m messing something up. Is this just because I never get to work with other juniors and don’t see the mistakes they make, and that it’s relatively normal? And FWIW I went to HYS and I’ve had a clerkship so it’s not like I’m not smart

Beginning to consider going in house (4th, corp) - I really haven’t thought about what I want, partly because I’m not sure what’s out there/attainable. Is it a bad idea to start by applying to a couple positions that interest me and seeing where that gets me? I’ll of course prep for the interviews but am afraid to burn potential bridges if I ultimately decline because I’m still figuring things out.
