Our Philadelphia-area boutique firm whose practice works exclusively with nonprofits and charities is hiring due to growth. Tax is the basis of Exempt Org work. That is why I am posting here. Great practice working to further charitable missions of our clients. Good WLB (1300 hour billable requirement). Opportunity for the right person to work remotely. Recruiters are used car salesmen. Tax is niche enough that you can learn what firms have a comparable tax practice in your city and apply direct. Recruiters will throw your resume anywhere/everywhere, they just want you to get a job so they can collect their fee.
I've always gotten more traction using a recruiter. Just looking to see if there's anyone else good out there.
A good recruiter is an advocate for you and can be very helpful. They have relationships with hiring personnel, inside information about firms/groups (like if they placed someone there in the past) and can offer you guidance on how to enhance your position (such as resume tips). They also take care of the annoying stuff like correspondence and scheduling.
However, it is true that the last thing you want is for a random recruiter mass sending your resume so they get the fee. You need to find someone you connect with and trust. I’ve used a couple who specialize in tax - feel free to PM.

Where are you now (BigLaw/B4?) and where do you want to go? That will also drive the recommendation on recruiter (e.g. law firm placement vs. industry).
