Continue to work with your law school’s career services center- most are typically still available to alum. Make sure you’re signed up with your local bar association and are going to all of their events to meet as many people as possible. Apply to as many firms as possible, with a priority on smaller firms and solo practictioners who might bring you on as a contract attorney or pay you per assignment (it sounds like an experience at this point is still worth it). You might need to juggle this on the side of a FT non-legal job for a while until you ramp up. All the best!!
I think A1 has given you great advice. Meeting people and building connections can be as important as your experience - at least allowing you an introduction that you probably wouldn’t get based on resume alone.
I had taken a year off before starting law school and got a job with a solo practitioner who did personal injury work. I mostly met with witnesses to take their statements and did some legal research. I believe it helped me to feel like I was connected to the legal profession and also demonstrated my passion for the law to potential employers.
Congratulations on passing the Bar! After so many tries, it shows lots of perseverance. Keep in mind that some snooty firms might not appreciate it but a smaller firm or solo practitioner might give you a shot. Also, consider pro bono opportunities to gain experience and help financially challenged people through free legal clinics. Wishing you all the best!
Local government is always a great place to start, criminal if you’re looking for trial experience fast.
