I recently interviewed with MITRE for a systems engineering role to make the move from Leidos where I feel underpaid for the work I do and for my experience ($85K). I have 4 YOE, a STEM degree, and soon will have a Masters Degree. I’m looking to make around $120K in the new role at Mitre. Does anyone have any insight into comp there? This would be in the DC metro area. Does $120K seem reasonable or am I dreaming?

This is one of the few times where I would say an MBA would help you. I think some form of higher education may be a benefit if this is the consistent feedback you're getting. And in fact, Coursera has some biz dev-related courses. I'd maybe try to pick up some courses/studies that are tangential and would provide a good bridge. My initial thoughts are that Biz Dev or strategic alliances would be an easier path. Though you may find more courses in partneships management readily at hand.
I already got my MBA before my current BizOps role, but thank you for the suggestion on Coursera, I’ll have to dig deeper into that
I would echo the above comment, I wouldn't go for the bigger startups but smaller/lesser-known ones as a start. If they're light on the ground, they're willing to compromise a bit more because they need people. For the lack of experience comment...tbh, I made a similar jump and what helped me get over that was connecting my experience as much as I could to the new role. Took me some time to map out 1-3 scenarios where there was a reasonable connection but it helped with answering more confidently.
Thanks! If you don’t mind sharing, how many YOE did you have when pivoting? I think I’m coming in too late with 10+ YOE, and that it might have been easier when I was younger.
What companies are you applying to? It might be worth checking out promising startups. They could be more lenient when it comes to requirements.
Do you think so? I thought so too but then I interviewed at Stripe and a couple of other similar places and they emphasized wanting someone who can come in and be productive on day 1 (who they don’t have to train as much).
