I actually love where i am but unfortunately we have the Omnicom acquisition looming over us for a year now. We dont know what the heck is gonna happen. otherwise, Ive been here 11 years and wldve done 11 more. Its a shame its going to change drastically.
Yep, I love my job here about as much as one can love their job. I’d stay here until retirement if they’d let me. I have a feeling Omnicom won’t.
The last overall positive experience I had was working at CDM as an intern in the early 2000s. I’m starting to think it was only positive because I was an intern and I was insulated from any craziness at the time.
I cannot think of a single agency that didn’t treat their employees like garbage and force them to work tons of unpaid overtime because account people don’t know how to manage client expectations or plan timelines accordingly. Actually, the real issue is usually that the agency leadership doesn’t back up account leads if they want to say no, so usually they can’t do their job effectively because shareholders need to see larger profit margins.
The one positive in every agency I’ve worked is that I’ve met some really smart, interesting, thoughtful, and talented people who are a pleasure to work with and learn from.
Unfortunately, a lot of the time the opposite type of people are in positions of power, and that’s why agency morale has been abysmal everywhere (at least in my experience).
Do you have positive experiences where you currently work? I’d love to hear it. I need some hope.
@account “manger” are you okay?
I’ve been in the industry for 20+ years and been staff and FL. IMHO, it’s 60% your team, 20% agency culture, and 20% your perception and attitude. For the win I worked this year with IMRE and loved working with them.
Mine is great! Omnicom is going to ruin it. 😍
I’ve worked for all four major holding companies at this point. All of them have strengths and weaknesses. All of them have bad and good managers, bad and good clients or accounts. If you find a team that seems to meet most of your criteria I would say stick with it. I’ve seen terribly run teams every where but also well oiled machines at those same places too. It’s highly people dependent more than process or company driven.
I love where I am! I just feel bad telling people so because we're tiny and virtually never hiring.
I love “tiny”. A gal can dream
I loved my agency, and I appreciate that it has supported my own development and has a CEO who is both very good at what she does and receptive to the needs of the workers.
This is all going away because of late-stage capitalism, and it's already been declining in the build-up, even though the ink isn't even dry yet. So, no, not especially happy right now.
Yeah I love it
