Anyone at the point of crying and physical anxiety going into work? (Working with terrible people). Job searching but how do I hold on long enough to find something else? Even making time applying and prepping for interviews is hard. How bad an idea is it to just quit? Thinking of going on leave but was told department head has to approve and I think it will be an uphill battle.

Going to therapy helped me realize that I wasn’t just being a bad worker and that my bad working environment was negatively impacting me. Should be obvious but it was a game changer

You really got this! I was in your shoes literally two weeks ago. Believe in yourself! you are so strong and relied upon at work bc of how hard you work! I know it’s hard but please try to find a job first! You will find one

Lawclerk.legal. Tons of postings per day and a long term doc review project. I would just leave and hustle these two things until I found my footing somewhere else. You deserve better than to suffer for a paycheck.

If you’re not feeling mentally well or fit to go in, take a few days off as it sounds like you’re stressed. This can be off sick or annual leave if you want a short break.

People are awful whether you have a prof job or you work in retail! Get thick skin or you'll be unhappy like I was, no matter whether it was office work or cashiering. I am retired from the Fed gov where I worked for different types of attorneys on two different floors. It is not the same in the gov compared to what I've read on here. We did not have "billable hours." It began when I was fresh out of school as a secretary in Contracts and I heard the gossip about me as I walked down the hall yet the experienced negotiators could goof off all they wanted or talk on the phone or flirt at work! I called a lady I knew in HR and she pulled strings and got me a job interview at a better job at the same facility. History repeated itself. I was even body shamed then by a woman I still know, 40 years later, and she is nice to me. Then, I got a better job again. One day I complained to my supervisor about a coworker (he was div chief level). He was frank and told me that people will always bother you. Years later after I retired and I worked PT at a store, the women were standing in the doorway of the safe. They had their backs turned and I heard my supervisor tell them to knock it off, he whispered, "she's right here." Now I can't find even a retail job since I live in a semi rural area. Thanks for reading :)

Sometimes having a plan can be really helpful in reducing anxiey. Concrete steps to move forward can help break the days and weeks into smaller, managable steps. It's also helped to understand the behaviors of others are not always personal, or reflect on whether you're a competent employee.

Be sure to document the dates/times of unhealthy interaction. Forward emails to your personal email that are documenting, contact an employment law attorney and also see if you are eligible for PFMLA. I have been dealing with these issues for a while. Also maybe talk to your doctor or talk to a counselor/therapist. I'm sorry you're going through this. It makes work so tough.

I know it may not seem like it right now, but that’s a good thing. No job is worth your mental or physical health.

If you haven’t found something already, maybe take a couple of days to reset first. Best of luck, you’ve got this!

Currently a big 4 consultant and got an offer from FAANG for a strategy and ops role that would bring my total comp up 60%. I’m really grateful for the offer and really excited, however, I am also interviewing with MBB. It has always been a goal of mine to work for tier 1 strategy firm as I’ve always felt on the outside looking in at big4. I feel like most exit ops from strategy would be S&O industry roles but still can’t get these MBB firms out of my mind. Am I just overthinking this?

Last associates committee meeting is coming up. Partners have asked each associate to come up with... not one... but FIVE marketing ideas. Other than reeling out “we offer competitive pay” in job postings, what are some good ones your firm does?

I’m struggling a bit. If I knew how to market well, I certainly wouldn’t be in this position.

Second year associate here who recently switched from litigation to corporate law. I am absolutely swamped while simultaneously having no idea what I’m doing ever and I’m feeling so burnt out. The partners are pretty great and feedback is constructive which I’m grateful for, but I’m so desperate for a compliment I’ve been saving any scrap of positivity in a folder 😭 it’s December 22 and I haven’t done my Christmas shopping because I don’t feel capable of thinking about it. I need a hug.

Transactional associate. Lateraled 6 months ago and one of the biggest pain points has been my new firm’s inclination to “hop on a call”, which of course requires every single stakeholder to join. The end result being every call has 25 people on it and nothing actually gets done because no one wants to ask a question that could come off as silly. It’s destroying my ability to get anything done during the day. It’s a complete performance and it drives me nuts.
