No, I miss in person depos. I actually get out of the office and potentially go to a different city where I grab coffee or lunch, get to chat with counsel beforehand, and can bill way more time.

I haven’t taken a depo in almost two years. I don’t miss them. In person or zoom. Leaving private practice soon (hopefully) and nothing makes me happier than never doing them again.
Yesssss, I told my calendar coordinator to notice my deps via zoom moving forward. Don’t miss sitting in a small crammed room with a bunch of attorneys.

I like doing Zoom depos only for experts and some fact witnesses.
Plaintiff depos I prefer to take them in person- it is much easier to confront them with exhibits, etc.

What if I've only ever taken depos by zoom? For a depo less than 3 hours with a handful of exhibits, I can't imagine anyone ever wanting to go back to in person. However, for a full 7 hour plaintiff depo with 50+ exhibits, I think in person would have been easier. It going to end up being context specific I think.
I think they are fine for an expert witness deposition, especially if you can avoid overnight travel. But, you certainly lose something doing depositions by Zoom instead of in person. You can evaluate a witness and opposing counsel much better in person.
Also you can’t discount the benefit of seeing opposing counsel face to face. My last depo was out of town so I got there early and talked to opposing counsel for a while and worked out a settlement agreement. Granted the talks were already ongoing, but we were able to work out some roadblocks in person.

This is definitely not a zoom thing. You can still talk about these things over zoom.
