My father, who has been in business management for 35 years, says I should hire a lawyer because they knew my experience, or lack there of, and still extended an offer letter to me and after 5 days of work they want to demote me/have me step down. I don’t want to go down that road and burn a bridge or create bad blood with an organization that I have wanted to be a part of for so long. They want me to step down and be a server/bartender/cook and they will train me on all the back end things for the general manager position for a future opportunity within the organization. My pride is a large part of my issue but not having health insurance and the finances are another part. We are a 1.2 income family, my wife’s job essentially pays for our mortgage each month. Any advice?
Since this was 4 weeks ago, I'm assuming comments at this point will be of limited value to you. I'm curious though if you'd be willing to share what you ended up doing and how things turned out?
That's a tough position to be in and many questions can be asked about how it came to that point. Despite what the organization mishandled, there are probably good learnings for yourself to take from that experience. Something to consider is that even with the seemingly poor fit with the position initially, you have qualities that they really wanted to have and keep on the team. I hope everything worked out!
