I went public school and work with people who went to private school. We all get to the same place.

Straight to the coal mines for mine
You got it backwards. If theyre stupid they need private school, otherwise theyll be fine in one of nyc magnet schools.
Driver, not the car, many doctors and surgeons went to public schools. Private schools are like makeup, if you’re good looking you don’t need it, but if you’re ugly it won’t help you anyway.
My kid is going to public school
I send my kid to public school and some of their friends are in private. I see no real noticeable educational advantage so far for the private school kids.
It’s more about support at home with reading than anything else before a certain age.
Depends on where in NYC
I've just signed up my first for the private school and while it's hard to accept the price tag, my reasons are safety, friends circle, and me having a voice as a paying customer. In my area, public schools are way below average. Sure, if she were to go a public school, she might be the smartest cookie there, a true gem.. but that'd be just average in private school we've chosen. The baseline is just higher.
To people saying, we end up in the same place. We may or may not. Too many factors, but hard to argue that private schools give better chance.

How you show up as a parent makes a bigger difference than public vs private. If you’re an absent parent, and always on the road for work, you’ll have to worry about a lot more than their IQ.
To pay 1 Million for grade 1-12, just to get to the same place as others do in public schools (ie CT, NJ) is not a good investment. If you can’t find good public schools here, I’d consider moving unless your bonus is millions like at Hedgefund and PE.
Tell us you’re an obnoxious a$$ without saying it. Your kid will be stupid or not depending on them not the school.
Move out to Darien, CT and you don’t have to worry.
Mine are in public school and thriving. If there are good options in your neighborhood go for it! I also know multiple partners and senior partners that have had their kids in public school at least for elementary in NYC.
Lol at the way you described that. Good public schools exist, I’d choose one of those. We don’t need more stupid people in the world.
Is there any help available to US employees from SAP or Deloitte to figure out the capital gains tax owed on a share sale last year of shares acquired over 10 years through the Move program and RSUs?
Spending 100k a year is cheaper than buying the second house in Jericho for the kids and first spouse. And the great public schools . So yea
Pray your kid is smart enough to test into a specialized high school. Best of both worlds imo 🤷🏻♀️
Yep me and my brother went to one.
But to provide you a bit of caution. My brother was ranked 3 out of 800 students and went to Harvard. I was ranked middle of the pack (with a 1450 /1600 SAT and 91 average) and had trouble getting into a great college bc of all the competition at my h.s.
Cheat code is send to relatively cheaper private school with less competition (e.g. < 300 students in a cohort and who aren't very academically strong despite inflated GPAs). Top 10-20th percentile GPA wouldn't be that hard to achieve, and the rest relies on extracurriculars.
You want the least amount of competition for your kid, for the least amount of cost. These schools aren't that easy to find but they still exist.
Stupid comes in all race public school is the same as paying. #MyPoint
I would put them in public school up until either middle school or high school and just pay for extra tutoring in the meantime. Once they get to middle school or high school then maybe think about switching especially if they are closer to the top of their class in elementary or middle school. Or just move to a nice neighborhood in LI or NJ from the jump.
I sent my kid to a mid-level New York public school. She’s doing just fine in private college compared to the other kids. In fact she probably got into this college because this college has an unspoken quota for bringing in local public school kids.
All the people I know that went to Private school did nothing with their lives, all the ones that went to public school are currently in amazing careers and families.
Education is important, but home values will define you.
