Anyone familiar with STB’s Asia offices (Hong Kong, Tokyo, Beijing)? What’s it like there (for M&A specifically)? Are they satellite offices with everything dictated down from New York, or fairly independent? Do they still pay COLA?

Need help evaluating an offer in Industry I just got. Offer is at the Director level for a series C startup:

Offer: Strategy Director $225K base, $20k sign on with stock options
Current: M1 at B4 $175K base, 10% bonus (if I’m lucky)

I’m at 8YOE (4 in consulting in a niche industry) and this is in a MCOL city.

I currently work at a medium sized firm and have about two years experience in personal injury litigation. The billable hours and lack of work life balance are really getting to me and I am looking to switch to something else out of litigation, preferably in house. I am also looking to relocate to a different state. How do I go about properly marketing myself to companies that might not take my relocation and minimal experience seriously?

I work for ERC department and assist north america employees..it's been like 17months now and within ERC i have also done Ticketing and HR cases...
I am not sure how many of you know what ERC is ..

I am tired of doing this now and want to try for IJP or atleast some other company..

After you are stealth laid off, other than job search, what do you do? I assume they won’t give you work and even if they do, you can politely decline? How do you feel about you are not progressing anymore and seeing other people progressing in their career? I have no intention to make partner, but still feel a bit stuck not doing that much.

Why are lawyers less friendly as colleagues than non-lawyers? I’ve worked both in-house and in firms and noticed lawyers tend to ignore each other. Compared to the multiple corporate events and initiatives that was quite a choc when I realized people in BL just come to the office, sit down, work and leave without even trying to have a conversation.

Junior Associates - How much student loan debt are you and your peers in these days? A few young partners and counsel at my firm were discussing the student loan moratorium and most of us were convinced we could have paid the majority of our loans off with the bonuses associates got these last two years. But we are all old and when we graduated 150k to 200k was about the max student loan debt people graduated with. So educate me. What is the average student loan debt these days?

Completely and totally miserable at my firm and just need a space to vent because my friends are tired of hearing about it. I wish the worst part about it was the amount of work, rather than the completely toxic culture, lack of appreciation, arbitrary and back/breaking deadlines, lack of mentorship/feedback/training, and the fact that the associates act like they don’t even know each other.
