I can understand your post, but your wording and grammar aren’t great. It can make it difficult for a team to effectively communicate, especially now with the hybrid/virtual environment. Also, if people have to constantly edit your work, they might get frustrated.
That being said, you shouldn’t be treated unfairly for it.
It probably depends on the job.
If communication is a significant part of it, that would be a challenge.
Agree there should not be bullying.
Yes. Pretty much exclusively from white males and more so from white females. I should add I have worked with many white males and females who look beyond that though
This happens with all non native language speakers on every continent. Such is life...
That happens alot… you might be unfairly treated for sure.
It doesn’t matter even if you talk perfectly good English. They will look at you differently always because you look different than them. I speak perfectly good English and my friends from my region can’t even tell I am from the same country when they first talk to me. But when I talk to American people, sometimes they don’t understand what I am saying or sometimes just pretend I talk differently. Because they immediately expect I would talk with an accent when they look at me
It’s sad…
It’s hard in a field like consulting because so much of success depends on how you are perceived, which does include things such as presence, communication, etc. While your post is understandable, it also clearly has a number of grammatical errors, which can erode confidence in the content itself. Agree it’s unfair, but it’s part for the course in a job that relies on people and relationships
Par* - it’s an English typo, good catch
This also happens to those of us with actual college degrees in English who happen to look foreign. You’re discriminated against either way
Because I have an accent, when I started out coworkers tried to correct my writing and slides and I found it hilarious. Give it a rest guys, I taught communication as a TA in business school!
An accent doesn’t mean I don’t know the language. English IS my first language. They got the memo though after a while
English first (only) language speaker here. Learning another language at a level that you can communicate professionally is a huge accomplishment. I’m sorry you have to go through what you’re going through. For what it’s worth, at least one person recognizes the effort you put in and skill it takes to master multiple languages.
Just rmr you speak more than one language fluently while most of us only speak English fluently. If anyone is being a jerk to you for that, they’re an idiot.
I have many sympathies on you. Every day I try my best but always I am overlooked for the best opportunity for some reasons. Not making of much sense to me as I'm a hard worker and really care a lot and people say much my english is good.
They never tell a native English speaker that your English is very good. In my working environment, they expect me to speak English like a native speaker
