Dude, you just gotta leave. The working culture in Italy sucks. In most Southern European countries actually. Move to a country where at minimum they respect you, your time, and your work.
Same advice. Get out while you can. I returned, tried, and made a good life, but it's too limited. The thinking is closed and it's still rooted in how families run the business. Heading west with the family to restart, will come back to retire.
No no I’m french. And I have been working everywhere (as civil engineer). Now in Italy for more than 2 years.
Same, I worked 3 years in italy and left. The country is great, but not for work. At least not for entry level.
Currently based in Germany, if interested to move or to just have a chat, write me
I’m Italian, and I work in Italy feeling uncomfortable. Surely you should go.
Thanks for the replies. It seems that that there isn’t much choice from your feedbacks..
It is a shame because the quality of life here is really good..
I mean in south Italy life is really cheap. Actually I am doing better compared to some of my colleagues who have similar wages in Rome and cannot afford apartments on their own.
I am paid 37k gross, that’s a bit less than 24k net for 10YOE
75% of the employees are working as freelancers for the company.. the junior often start at 1100€/month net
And yes it is a family run business.. weird to find out this is common.. even in the engineering business
Yeah it depends on what you are looking for in life and what trade offs you are willing to accept.
For me money wouldn’t play a role at all in a choice like this. They could pay you 150k.
Life is awesome in many other places. That’s just a cognitive bias, you grew up with that and it looks like the best.
I’m in Italy but work remotely for a UK company, best of both worlds!
