I just interviewed with a family law firm that also does crim and immigration as well. They pay as a commission, not salary. This is in DC and there are about 12 attorneys. First, what is a fair commission rate (35%?). Second, what salary expectations should I have?

2nd year lit. associate at a mid-sized general service firm. Comp structure is a base salary + fee sharing. Started off with firm files, but was able to get my own clients over time. Now 90% of my files are my own clients. Currently bringing in an average of 25k/mo. in receipts from my own clients and barely 1k/mo. from firm files. My annual salary is decent due to the fee sharing structure, but I still feel I am underpaid, given my ability to bring in clients. Should I try to negotiate a raise?
