To clarify, prior to this I was a partner at a small 100 person firm I grew with partners from 10 ppl. You must be able to sell as other posters have noted. I highly suggest some vertical expertise. I play doctor and cfo on the regular. If you are just selling data engineering and viz you won't win much

Yes. What do you consider ‘making it’ tho?

like

Making a living at it. Are you?

?????

Are you talking about contracting? Clarify please

Did it for 5 years. Doable, but you better be able to sell. If you can't sell, don't even consider it. I'm very seriously considering it again in 2024. Slalom is just a staffing firm at this point anyways. Advice, be broad in data strategy, be bottomless well deep in one technology. That's for contracting, for running your own shop. That has more to do with your network and ability to sell than anything else.

Interesting concept. So many ai tools coming out, best to be in a shop for now. Or make something sellable (saas) or something.

Can someone explain how billable hours work? At a new agency and although I had to fill timesheets at my previous agencies, they were mainly used to ensure we weren’t over servicing a client/for setting the appropriate retainer for contract renewals. I asked ppl at my agency but haven’t gotten a proper explanation. I get the impression that billing to the agency admin code isn’t recommended, and my manager said he bills everything to client codes, but that doesn’t make sense to me .

Anyone know of an alternative to StackOverflow for asking tech questions? The community is super toxic and I'm looking for a place I can casually ask questions that might seem dumb without being hrangued for not providing an essay proof of the research I've already done. Hi! Does anyone know what kind of knowledge is needed to crack the Data Scientist interview at Google?

I'm currently working in Marketing Analytics (primarily using SQL and a bit of pyspark). Apart from mastering SQL, I wanted to know from people working at Google what does it take to get there as a Data Scientist? (I'm very interested in Strategy Ops)

I plan to another 6-8 months in preparation and upskilling myself before I even apply.
Any help and guidance is appreciated! Thanks :)
