Anyone recently let go due to “not meeting expectations”? It sounds like that’s a popular reason lately. if so, were you also told you were ineligible for rehire? I had no idea that was policy. Did I miss that change?

If I were a betting man, I would bet that these so called “expectations“ we not ever verbalized and unclear. It’s just a BS line.

I’d be asking for feedback as to why. It’s awfully convenient to just note low performance - but not have qualified, documented, or proved that was the case.

In my experience, this isn’t allowed for performance unless there have been progressive discipline or reprimands (or pips) to address the matter.

I’d contact an employment lawyer.. you may have grounds for a case depending on your specific scenario.

companies tend to hang on to people meeting or exceeding expectations.

I feel your pain, and I totally understand where you’re coming from. That sounds completely unfair. In my case, “not meeting expectations” felt like vague cover language, not a real performance issue. I was let go within 8 days of starting after leaving a stable job. First I was told I was on my phone too much, even though others were openly on their iPads in meetings. Then after I corrected that, the complaints shifted to me being “too quiet” and staying in my office with the door closed during trainings, even though I closed it because the training audio was loud and I was trying not to disturb anyone else. It felt like constant micromanaging and moving the goalpost.

What made it worse was that when I tried to explain myself in the termination meeting, they acted like I was the problem for speaking up. At that point, it no longer felt like honest feedback. It felt targeted. When expectations are not clearly communicated and the reasons keep changing, it can feel like they already made up their mind and were just looking for something to justify it. No one deserves to be treated like that.

Planning a trip to Rome and Naples with day trips to Tivoli and Pompeii. Is 1 week enough? I feel like reading through 3/4 day Rome and 2 day Naples itineraries, the trip seems rushed. I have unlimited PTO but my SO is limited in time (but luckily he can work extra hrs and then use less PTO). I would say max we could do is 1.5 weeks but adding on 3-5 more days seems almost too much? Thoughts? For reference, I did Venice-Florence-Rome in a week and it seemed okay but it also wasn’t as planned out
